Depression Hypnotherapy

Depression sucks. Mornings can sometimes be the hardest of all and getting out of bed feels like an impossible feat. Depression stops you from being able to put your problems into context or find ways to lift your mood. It effectively locks you into a hypnotic trance where you struggle to focus your attention away from how you feel. You find yourself just existing each day and not actually ‘living your life’.

All too often, we neglect these symptoms for very long periods before seeking treatment. Many people simply refuse to ‘give in’ and continue to struggle in the hope that things will ‘just get better on their own’. Others may believe that depression is some kind of ‘weakness’ and won’t accept that they need help to overcome it in the same way that they would seek treatment for any other condition. So most suffer in silence putting on a brave face and store up toxic thoughts and debilitating emotions. It is lonely and difficult to manage and the following list gives only a handful of the conditions and complications that can result:

> feeling constantly pessimistic
> feeling constantly sad, anxious or empty
> feeling restless and irritable
> feeling worthless, helpless or guilty
> difficulty concentrating and making decisions
> thoughts of death or suicide
> losing interest in things
> having low self-esteem.

We often say ‘I feel depressed’ when we experience sadness or a low mood, but depression is more complicated than simply feeling miserable. Most of the time, these feelings are just temporary, and will pass after a while. But when they seem to worsen, or last for days and then perhaps into weeks without relief, or if they keep returning and then begin to affect your normal everyday life, then you may be experiencing something closer to ‘clinical’ depression. There are a number of different types of depression. They tend to be categorised by the severity of symptoms, their prevalent features and duration.

The aim of Depression Hypnotherapy is to target the root cause of the issue and to develop better coping behaviours. In most circumstances you will usually forget or suppress the cause of your depression because of the association with negative feelings. It’s not difficult to forget an event on a conscious level, but it is on a subconscious level. This is why it’s best to confront the issue head on, rather than burying it, which can worsen your depression.

Depression Hypnotherapy connects directly with the subconscious mind. Your hypnotherapist will address your perception of the event that has caused you to become depressed with the aim to improve your self-esteem, mood and help you gain your independence back.
